Philadelphia Home Security
Graffiti Starts At Home…

So the other day I was doing some things around the yard at home and ran across this small scrawled message on a gutter downspout. The first reaction of the father in me was to lecture my daughter on the evils of graffiti and make her clean it up. But, then I couldn’t—the more I thought about it, the more it warmed my heart. As a parent, you try so hard to have a home that allows your kids to feel safe and secure and loved. And you know, that in this world, that’s not something everyone is able to do for one reason or another.
Every now and then it’s nice to get confirmation you might be doing your job right. [grin] I think I’ll let it stay on the downspout…

Protecting your Philadelphia home requires a little bit of planning. It starts by reconstructing your view of what is included in home security and then moving beyond that to secure your property on multiple levels.
Comprehensive home security for your Philadelphia property should be consider three-fold. You must start by securing your home at each point of entry, then secure your home with a security system, and finally turn your attention to your home’s exterior. Whether you live in a free-standing home or a row house with little to no front yard, it is highly recommended to spend some time on securing your home’s exterior where possible.
First, you need to secure the home at each point of entry, namely the doors and windows. It is important to secure the home at each point of entry before doing anything else. The home is only as secure as it’s weakest point, so be sure each window and door is secured closed and locked. Go around the home and check each lock, making sure they are in proper working condition and strong. You may consider adding an extra lock to each window and door. With regard to the locks on the doors, it is suggested for you to add a dead bolt to the door and perhaps even consider adding extra long wood screws into the door frame, connecting it to the wall stud. Any additional steps you can take to increase the strength of the door against intruders is certainly welcomed when trying to increase the home’s security.
Second, once the home is secure at its points of entry you are ready to equip it with a security system. Pick a security system that gives you the protection you need at the price you can afford. If you need additional options or features, such as additional keypads or remote controls to give two examples, talk with the sales representative. The home alarm is the key part to any home’s overall home security plan because it provides the most basic and effective barrier against potential burglars. If an alarm is visible and in working condition, most if not all burglars will turn their attention elsewhere. An alarm presents to high of a risk to most burglars.
Finally, turn your attention to the home’s exterior. Both the front and backyard should be considered part of your overall security plan. If you do not live in an individual home with its own yard, consider the apartment building’s shared halls and staircases as your home’s exterior and take steps to make it more secure. Or if you live in a row house without a yard, consider the habits you can change to give your home a higher level of security.
Philadelphia home security, just like in any other city, requires a comprehensive approach. Living in a city may complicate the process in securing one’s home, but it should not deter you from taking the time necessary to construct a comprehensive plan that confronts home security on multiple levels.
