Intumescent paint is to paint a kind of flame retardants. When exposed to flames from a fire expands it into a black foam or “char barrier” that can be almost an inch thick and covers the surface that the paint was applied. The barrier separates characters desperately needed fuel to the fire that burns and protects the underlying structures provide valuable extra time for evacuation of building occupants and firefighters arrive to put out the fire and more of such so that damage is minimized.

The development of intumescent paints began in the 1980s, but until recently they were not widespread. Many of these earlier versions were difficult to enforce and a very thick coating was necessary. They were in the crumbly and their application requires a trained operator with specialized equipment. Some contain toxic or carcinogenic chemicals, or had a foul odor. Others were met with fire retardant chemicals in the water. This means that they do not adhere well to surfaces that are associated with other paints and coatings have been applied and has no obligations for them as well. In the event of a fire barrier tank was easily broken and ineffective. Despite these problems, however, the first types of intumescent paint are still played an important role in certain situations, including chemical plants, oil platforms and refineries.

Today, these images are significantly improved. They can easily be applied with a spray brush, roller or paint and polymer are liable to many surfaces. They are nontoxic and not irritating to the skin so that they are completely harmless to children and pets. Two layers of the painting is a sufficient protection for most situations, and they are much cheaper than the old types. These improved intumescent paints are now used in many situations. They can be used on steel, aluminum, wood and drywall, and all porous surfaces. To protect steel structures, because when exposed to sufficient heat to weaken and eventually they break down the building.

In all the recent improvements in these pictures are the right kind of passive fire protection to the damage of fire in a circumstance where you need it most would be limited. Intumescent paint has become one of the most valuable to protect your assets from the consequences of a catastrophic wildfire.
